As many as 18.77 lakh registered farmers in Kerala will soon be issued agri cards, enabling easier access to agricultural credit, technical support, and financial assistance under welfare and crop insurance schemes. Minister for Agriculture K.P. Mohanan told mediapersons here on Tuesday said agri cards would be issued by the Kerala Gramin Bank to all members of the farmers’ database. Moves were on to facilitate direct transfer of subsidies under various agricultural schemes to the bank accounts of farmers under the e-payment system.
The distribution of cards would be inaugurated at the State farm day celebrations to be held at the police ground, Kannur, from August 16. Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Kumar Bilya is scheduled to inaugurate the 11-day event, including a South Indian Agrifest. The highlights of the celebrations include seminars, cultural events, sports competitions, and a farm exhibition.
