Ayurveda, other medical systems must interact

Ayurveda can develop further only by interacting with other systems of medicine, said writer M T Vasudevan Nair. Inaugurating the solidarity meet organized as part of the Global Ayurveda Festival here on Monday, he said there should be a healthy competition among various systems of medicine.

"Ayurveda is India's contribution to the world and it has a long tradition. However, this system of medicine is still confined to a corner. But interaction with other systems will make ayurveda more efficient and will promote researches in the system," he said.


Malayalam University vice-chancellor K Jayakumar, cine actor Manju Warrier, writer Subhash Chandran, Dr P A Lalitha and Kerala Press Akademi former chairman N P Rajendran attended the meeting.


Meanwhile, the international business meet held as part of the festival discussed the ways to propagate the Indian system of medicine at the global level.


The meet also mooted the idea of an international centre to propagate Ayurveda for the foreign delegates. Delegates from India said efforts are needed to spread the activities such as creating medicinal plant gardens.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kozhikode on Tuesday to attend the event.BJP leaders including state general secretary K Surendran, state vice-president K P Sreesan will receive the Prime Minister at the helipad. Chief minister Oommen Chandy and Union minister of state for Ayush Sripad Y Naik will receive the Prime Minister at the venue.
