With hot weather prevailing, the temperature has crossed 102.2 degree Fahrenheit here on Thursday. A press release from Agromet Field Unit of Veterinary College and Research Institute and Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai said that the maximum and minimum temperatures are 102.2 degree Fahrenheit and 84.2 degree Fahrenheit. With wind speed around 5 km per hour, mostly from southeast direction, humidity is between 30 to 72 per cent.
The release said that with increase in summer stress in poultry, feed intake and egg weight will decrease.
When the daily feed intake goes to 100 gram per bird or below, poultries should be provided artificial lighting during cool hours of the day, particularly from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. “This will improve the feed intake in poultry,” the release added. Also, farmers were asked to avoid feeding during hot hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also ensure cool water availability to birds throughout the day.
