the mercury levels rise with the onset of summer, so do the number of people suffering from dehydration and heat stroke.
With a rise in temperature coinciding with water cuts at many places, nutritionists advise people to consume seasonal foods and drink a lot of boiled and purified water to stay cool.
Physician Dr Amruta Sonawane said, "In the last one week, I have had at least three to four patients a day suffering from weakness and dehydration. As this is just the beginning of summer, the situation can get worse.
The soaring heat has resulted in many people showing signs of dehydration, heat cramps heat stroke and restlessness. Excessive sweating makes the body lose essential nutrients. This can cause rapid heartbeat, fever, blood pressure fluctuations, headache and drying of skin. "One must have all seasonal fruits and vegetables such as watermelons and muskmelons. This is internally refreshing. The vitamins lost by the body should be continuously replenished with vitamin C-filled juices made of amla and aloe vera," said Manas hi Changdar, a dietician.
"This is the best time to have chaach, lime juice, faloodas, coconut water and energy juices. Light and fiber-rich meals with a lot of green leafy vegetables can avoid digestion problems which are also common this season," said nutritio nist Dr Smita Kulkarni.
