Karnataka has asked the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation to test their non-genetically modified rice varieties in the State. These varieties, which have resistance to salinity — a major problem for paddy cultivation — will be tested in the coastal region and the Krishna river basin which have high salinity, according to Minister of State for Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda.
